The situation
A platform serving many merchants needed in-store card payments, with every payment tied to the right merchant, location, reader and order.
Proposed architecture
A Node.js and Express service between the POS and Stripe. Stripe Terminal handles the card reader and Stripe Connect handles each merchant’s account. Webhooks keep transaction records in step with payment events.
Scope
- Merchant onboarding with Connect
- Reader registration, pairing and location assignment
- PaymentIntent collect and capture, plus cancel, retry and refund
- Webhook signature checks, idempotent requests and duplicate-event handling
- Platform fees, transfers and payout visibility
