US trucking & final-mile carrier

Barcode shipment tracking

Customers had a barcode but no easy way to find their shipment on the carrier's website.

The challenge

Customers had a barcode but no easy way to find their shipment on the carrier's website.

What we built

  • WordPress lookup from barcode to Spoke Dispatch tracking record
  • Server-side API calls with clear messages for bad or missing barcodes
  • Planned Business Central to Spoke order middleware

The full story

The situation

A US trucking and final-mile carrier’s customers had a barcode but no easy way to find their shipment on the carrier’s website. The shipment data lived in Spoke Dispatch.

Approach

A WordPress search form that looks up the matching Spoke shipment from a barcode and opens its tracking page. The API calls run on the server, which avoids browser restrictions. A wrong barcode, a missing shipment and a tracking-service outage each get their own clear message.

Planned extension

Middleware to send orders from Microsoft Business Central to Spoke when a delivery is picked, with field mapping, validation, retries and duplicate protection.

Status

Scoped / R&D. The design is done and partly built. It’s shown here as the approach we’d take.
